About this property

Welcome to Glen Lyon Inn

This seaside property caters to travelers looking for a relaxed atmosphere close to the marina and seaplane base, with downtown Port Hardy just a kilometer away. The inn operates as a combination hotel and motel, providing free Wi-Fi, on-site parking, and accessible facilities. While the rooms are described as clean and comfortable, they are somewhat dated and do not include air conditioning, which some guests found manageable due to the cool coastal climate and cross breezes. Spent 2 nights at the Glen Lyon Inn and very much enjoyed it. The front desk and cleaning staff were cheerful and helpful. The room was clean & comfy, and had a spacious deck overlooking the water. I've never seen so many eagles in one place. Most windows had no screens, but there were no bugs, so it didn't really matter. The nights are cool so there was no need for A/C with the windows open. If you leave the deck door and the front door open for 10 minutes it cools down quickly with the cross breeze. The attached restaurant was pretty good. They served the best crab cakes I have eaten. Most places I have been to the crab cakes are an inch & a half thick with more "cake" than crab. I've had some where you could barely detect anything resembling crab. BUT these beauties were only about half an inch thick and packed with crab with a nice thin crunchy crust. I felt bad for the young lady serving because she was the only server that showed up for work that evening. I was amazed how cheerful she was and how well she managed taking care of the entire dining room. There was a young man in the same situation working the breakfast shift the next morning, and he did a fantastic job under the circumstances as well. I would definitely welcome another opportunity to stay at and eat at the Glen Lyon Inn.

We stayed here 6 nights in the second half of July 2025 so that we could take some time to explore the north part of the island. We loved the view from our 2nd floor room; seeing the tide go in and out was a treat and there were almost always eagles. All rooms have a water view, but only the 2nd and 3rd floors have decks. There was no AC or screen on the sliding glass door, which made for hot sleeping the first night with the deck door closed. Then we figured out that leaving the deck door open with the drapes closed got us to the right temperature. The bed was a bit firm for my taste, but my husband was fine with it. He liked sitting at the desk in the evenings, and I liked the chair with hassock. The deck was large and had chairs but it was a bit cool to sit outside in the evenings. The room and bathroom were spacious, and everything was clean. An elevator and luggage carts made moving in and out easy. All of the staff were friendly, but we did have a few miscommunications in person and via email (all were eventually fixed). I'm guessing it can be difficult to hire and retain sharp staff in a small town.

I'm gauging this review on my personal experience and managed expectations for a location that is not a popular, international, big-budget destination for jetsetters and huge investors. It is an economic, well-designed, comfortable, professionally run establishment with free parking and located in a great place on Vancouver Island. The room was very comfortable and clean. The shower worked great and the mini-fridge was in good shape and not screaming all night keeping me up. :-) It seems that all the rooms have a great view of the ocean, mine included - great design. The lady at the front desk was so nice and we were checked in so quickly. Checkout was just a moment and the attached restaurant/pub was perhaps a little spartan but the food and service was great.

Staff was great. Late night check in. No Air Conditioning but windows open with no screens. It wasn't awful just different. Rooms are dated but clean. I will stay again. The team on site makes the difference.

We came in late at night and were greeted right away and they helped us park our trailer. Rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. When the light broke in the morning the view was stunning. The staff were great in the morning and gave us breakfast vouchers for the local café Guido in town. It has a book store as well as a gift shop. Port hardy has quite a bit going on I highly recommend staying at this hotel and visiting the north island. Looking forward to the restaurant coming into the hotel it will be a gem for sure. Thank you to all the staff from the front desk to the cleaners. See you soon. - Jean-Luc

We decided to take a 3-day trip to Port Hardy, and stayed at the Glen Lyon Inn. Absolutely no complaints. The service at the front desk was efficient and friendly. The room was very clean and spacious; we rented the honeymoon suite for 3 days so that we could enjoy the jacuzzi tub. The fireplace worked great, the balcony was huge, and the view was absolutely spectacular. Having a window on each side, we woke up to stunning sunshine and ocean views. We would definitely recommend you stay at the Glen Lyon Inn when you are in Port Hardy! Finally, just some constructive criticism. We rented the honeymoon suite, so it would have been nice to have some wine glasses, some plates, some cutlery, etc in the room. It does have a built-in kitchenette with a microwave and a bar fridge, but we had to go down to the restaurant to get cutlery and wine glasses.
